Here are the solutions to some of the questions that people have about the Joomla Bibtex Component
How do I upgrade to a new version of the component.
Upgrading requires that you first uninstall the old version. This is crucial, and the installation will fail unless you do so. If you already have references in the application that you wish to keep you should use the dowload bibtex string facility (separately for each category if required, as the category will not be stored in the bibtex string). You can then proceed to uninstall the old version, install the new version, then you will have to recreate the categories and upload the bibtex files that you saved for each category.
In the list of publications, the author names are sorted by their first name or initial. Is it possible to place the surname first?
I realise it is not a perfect solution, and I will do something about it for the next release (I have just released some bug fixes today though), but you should be able to do the following:
1. download the bibtex file from the front end (if necessary i.e. if you have done any editing or manual adding)
2.clear your database (delete all)
3. change the configuration setting "full names" to off
4. load up your bib file
Then only the surnames will be displayed in the tables in the front end and the back end, so the sorting will produce more useful results. I will have to put in some code so that changing that configuration setting automatically changes what is displayed without going through all those steps.
Problems occur when I try to load a bib file generated by JabRef
JabRef allows for bib file creation in many file encoded formats. The BibTex parser in Joomla BibTex can only handle one file format. If you have problems when loading a .bib file, or if authors names are not loaded at all, try copying the entire .bib file contents to the clipboard and pasting in into the "paste bibtex string" input page.

, on 26-03-2007 14:44 Just installed the extension and uploaded a (JabRef created) bibtex file from the backend. Worked smoothly so far. However, the frontend looks completely different from your demo and adding references does not work. I instead get a search screen after choosing the adding method. If I check the components version in the installer it tells me 1.0 no matter whether I use com_jombib1.2 or 1.22. Would appreciate your help a lot as our report to the European Commision is due and we should have the page working. Thanks, Lorenz |
