Introduction

This bibliography component for Joomla lets you create and maintain a bibliographical database using the BibTex specification. A bibliography database can be generated from a BibTex file with just a few clicks, and a powerful set of display and editing tools will enable an academic community to maintain a collaborative set of bibliographies via user upload, editing and download. References not in the BibTex format can be added individually and integrated into the database through a simple form input. As the component uses Joomla core display code, the bibliographies display is seamlessly integrated into your site’s template style.

Installation

Installation should be carried out in the usual Joomla way for components. If you had a previous version of the component installed, this must be uninstalled first. If you had compiled a large bibliographical database in a previous version (1.1b on) you can download the automatically generated BibTex file before uninstalling so that you can reinstate the database in the new version.

It is the com_jombib1.2.zip package that should be uploaded.

Back End - Administration

The menu

There are 4 submenus in the Joomla BibTex administrator menu:

• View References shows you a paginated table of your references and contains a toolbar to upload new references, delete references, create new categories and edit references
• Input References takes you straight to the input page
• View Categories allows you to manage the categories
• Configuration lets you change some general settings of the component

Initial Configuration

I recommend that you first set up any categories that you plan to use to break up your references. A separate menu item can be created for each category. References must be assigned to a category when they are uploaded, but this can be changed later.
